Keeping the dog friendly and stop aggression

A Dog Friendly Society?

Dogs are very loyal and intelligent animals, at the same time; they are social animals. Anybody can socialize dogs by introducing them to different kinds of people, animals and environments. So, he will learn to be friendly if he is familiar with them. Socialization should not be limited only to Puppies, you have to keep on training social skills during the first few months. First socialize your dog with people and other pets at home.

Generally Rottweiler and Dobermans are unfairly described as aggressive breeds. Actually, any dog can become aggressive toward humans, and can bite or attack a family member, friend or neighbor. A dog that is labeled more dangerous to the people can be taken away and put to sleep. There are several ways to prevent the dog's aggressive tendencies.

How to do it?

1. First you should stick to use single word commands like 'sit' and 'stay'. Use a friendly tone while speaking to your dog. When he does something undesired, use a stern, friendly tone. Better to avoid speaking the word "attack" around your dog, or teaching him the attack command. Otherwise that may end up attacking you or someone else.

2. Avoid playing games with your dog that are rough or will bring out his aggressive, dominant side. Games such as tug-of-war will teach the dog that it is okay to be violent toward a human or a toy. Also, do not allow your children to jump or handle the dog in a forceful way. The dog's natural reaction will be a violent one, and this could result in the dog's biting or nipping at the child.

3. Take veterinary advice. Your dog may have an illness or chemical imbalances that cause his aggressive tendencies. Your vet would be able to come up with a plan of action to lessen or eliminate the problem.

4. Schedule your dog to be spayed or neutered. Many times a dog's aggressive nature will be greatly lessened, or completely eliminated.

5. Keep your dog away from people or situations that cause an aggressive response. For instance, if your dog acts aggressively toward a particular neighbor, do not allow the dog to be near that person.
